California State University, Monterey Bay, or CSUMB for short, is a small public university in Seaside, which is a city in Monterey County, in the US state of California, with a population estimated at a number of more than 33 000 inhabitants, during the 2008 census. Seaside is best known for the fact that it is home to CSUMB and the Bayonet and Black Horse golf courses, which was once part of the Fort Ord military base, today being open to the public and host to PGA Tour events.
CSUMB was founded in 1994, with an enrollment of only 654 students, as of 2009, the university having an enrollment estimated at a number of nearly 4700 students and approximately 141 staff and faculty members, offering various educational programs in numerous fields of study, at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, including bachelor degrees in arts and science and master degrees in arts, science, public policy and business administration.
The athletic teams from CSU Monterey Bay are known as the Otters, who compete in NCAA Division II, in 14 sports for both men and women, for the fall, winter, and spring seasons, including in basketball, soccer, cross country, golf and softball. Their distinctive colors are Bay Blue, Golden Sand and Valley Green.
